Open House for UKEN Employees at Fort Skotniki!

On September 23, 2026, an Open House for University employees was held at the headquarters of the UKEN Center for Documentation of Deportations, Expulsions, and Resettlements.

Participants learned about the Center’s activities—as a university-wide research unit, university museum, archive, and library—and toured the historic Skotniki Fort, which is part of the Kraków Fortress. A highlight of the program was a curator-led tour of the permanent exhibition “Deported to Siberia: The Fates of Polish Citizens Deported Deep into the Soviet Union During World War II.” The Center’s most significant projects, its collections, and the latest artifacts that have recently been added to its holdings were also presented. The official portion of the event was attended by His Magnificence the Rector of UKEN, Prof. Wojciech Bąk; the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at UKEN, Prof. Jacek Chmieliński; and the Chancellor of UKEN, Aneta Wójcik.
The gathering also had an important integrative dimension that went beyond the official program. It provided an opportunity for conversation, the exchange of experiences, and getting to know staff members from various units of our University better.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone for coming in such large numbers, for your interest in the Center’s activities, and for the time we spent together. We hope to welcome University staff to Fort Skotniki many more times in the future!
