On 13 December 1981, martial law was imposed throughout Poland. Today marks 43 years since those tragic events, which Mr Kazimierz Pater mentioned in an interview with the Centre.
Kazimierz Pater was born on 2 January 1936 near Lviv. He was deported with his entire family to Siberia on 10 February 1940. After the war ended, he and his parents left the USSR and returned to Poland. He was an active member of Solidarity, and was arrested on the night of 12-13 December. In the summer of 1982, he managed to leave for Germany with his wife and sons and then made his way to the United States. While there, he decided to move to South Africa, where he continued his medical career with his wife.
