Another treasure in the collection of the UP Documentation Centre for Deportations, Expulsions and Resettlements
Through the mediation of Mrs. Bożenna Wójcik (daughter of Zdzisława Wójcik – Commander of the Polish Scouting in Africa during World War II), in agreement with the Superior General of the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters Servants of the Cross, Mother Judith Olechowska, the blanket that Maria Podoska received after her evacuation from the USSR to Iran in 1942 was given to us!!!
We are happy that this remarkable artefact has been deposited in the Archives of the CDZWiP UP all the more so because our collections also include many hours of interviews with both the late Maria Podoska – Sister Goretti, and the late Zdzislawa Wójcik. The memories of these two residents of the Polish settlement of Tengeru in Tanganyika have been saved from oblivion and can serve future generations!
We would like to thank Mrs Bożenna Wójcik for her initiative to bring the antique blanket from Iran to our collection, for her trust and appreciation of our activities!
