Death of the Sybiragan Alina Karakiewicz

It is with regret that we announce the death of the late Alina Karakiewicz, a Sybiracker in Cracow, on 28 August 2023. The last farewell will take place on September 1, 2023 at 1.40 p.m. in the chapel at the Rakowicki Cemetery in Krakow.
Alina Karakiewicz was born on 9 November 1923 in Belsko Biała, the daughter of Henryk Zenon and Fryderyka. The fate of the Karakiewicz family was tragic. Her father, Henryk Zenon, was a captain in the Polish Army and was murdered by the NKVD in Kharkov in 1940. Alina, her mother and brother Andrzej were deported in June 1941 from Białystok to the Altai Krai, to a kolkhoz where they worked hard. In 1942, her brother enlisted in the 3rd Carpathian Rifle Division. He died on 8 November 1944 and was buried in the cemetery in Bologna. Alina and her mother returned to Poland in 1946.
