It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Alex Dancyg.
The Centre’s collection includes a lengthy interview with Mr Alex conducted by our staff and volunteers in his flat in the Nir Oz kibbutz near Gaza. Today we are sharing a small excerpt of it (link below). During the 2016 interview, Mr Alex shared his fears about a Hamas terrorist attack against Israel. Unfortunately, his premonitions came true.

Alex Dancyg was a Polish and Israeli citizen. He was born on 21 July 1948 in Warsaw. A historian by profession, for decades he was involved in Polish-Jewish dialogue, organising, among other things, visits of Israeli groups to Poland and Polish groups to Israel. A connoisseur and lover of Polish culture and literature. He trained guides accompanying young Israelis on their trips to Poland. He also created a Hebrew guide to Poland. He worked at the Yad Vashem Institute in Jerusalem. On 7 October 2023, he was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists.
