Professor Stanisław Krawczyński has passed away

It is with great sadness that we received the news of the death of Prof. Stanisław Krawczyński, an outstanding choral conductor, educator, and former rector of the Academy of Music in Krakow.
The professor was also directly connected with the history of the Siberian deportees. He was born in the settlement of Pierspiektiwnyj in the Krasnoyarsk Krai, a place marked by the tragedy of exile. His parents were deported to Siberia, where they met.
The professor’s father, Wiesław Krawczyński, a Home Army soldier, Siberian deportee, and labor camp inmate, was a co-founder and president of the Siberian Deportees Association in Krakow.
Professor Stanisław Krawczyński entrusted our Center with unique mementos of his father, including:
- secret letters and sketches from the prison in Lviv depicting scenes of torture, among other things
- a folder with sheet music of songs performed in the labor camp (as a member of the labor camp orchestra)
- postcards
- documentation related to the establishment and activities of the Siberian Association in Krakow
Some of these priceless historical artifacts can be seen in our permanent exhibition.
We offer our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
