Postmemory in Research Conducted by the CDZWiP at UKEN
At the Center for the Documentation of Deportations, Expulsions, and Resettlements at UKEN, we record interviews not only with witnesses to history—those who participated in the events in question—but also with their children and grandchildren. Subsequent generations carry with them, if not trauma, then a certain burden associated with the experiences of their ancestors. Many people are also deeply aware of how important it is to document their stories and, consequently, to save them from oblivion. For this reason, the Center conducts research on postmemory, and our archive is enriched with interviews with the descendants of historical witnesses, as well as documents and photographs that serve as an invaluable complement to their stories.
- In recent days, Mr. Zbigniew Janczulewicz recounted the story of his father—Henryk (Hieronim) Janczulewicz (a forced laborer in Germany, a partisan in Italy, and a soldier in the 22nd Artillery Supply Company of the 2nd Polish Corps)—and his grandfather, Hieronim Janczulewicz (a prisoner in Soviet camps and a soldier in the 2nd Polish Corps)—Mr. Zbigniew Janczulewicz.
- Ms. Iryna Kliachko, meanwhile, shared with us the story of her great-grandfather, Kazimierz Dogiel (a prisoner in Soviet camps and a soldier in the 5th Kresowa Infantry Division of the 2nd Polish Corps).Thank you for your trust!
